Two Years ago today

Wow...its hard to believe that Garrett was born two years ago. I can easily say it was the scariest day of my life. EVER. And I have had some eventful things happen to me in my 30-some-odd years.

I was laying in my hospital bed on my 3rd day of hospital bed rest at 25 weeks gestation. My OB walks in and I can tell by the look on her face that things aren't well!! The sentences I will never forget..."Your blood work is not improving and I have talked with a few other doctors. We believe your baby will do better on the outside than inside. We are going to prep you for a C-section in the next few hours." My poor OB had to call Heath because I couldn't breath, much less speak.

3 hours later, Garrett made his first "squeak" and was rushed off to the NICU. He weighed in at 1lb 5 oz and was 12 inches long. Real life comparison: one oz bigger than a 20 oz bottle of water!!! He was tiny and fragile, but beautiful!!! I couldn't believe the amount of machines you could hook up to something so small.

4 months later we were able to bring Garrett home, but we brought some of the hospital home with us. He remained on oxygen for the next 6 months and continued to wear his breathing monitor for another 3 months while he slept.

With such a rough start to life, I cannot begin to explain the joy and thanksgiving we experience everyday watching our healthy, vibrant little boy running around the house. Its amazing to watch this modern day miracle play on a playground, talk on the phone to his grandparents, and play games on my iPhone. We praise God for the wonderful things he has done in our lives through Garrett and the lives he has touched through his story!!!

HAPPY 2nd BIRTHDAY GARRETT OLAN ICENHOWER!!!!!

When I looked at Garrett two years ago I didn't know what a journey was ahead of us. To watch him now and as he looks at me and says "Granna." I say, "Thank you Lord you are still in the miracle business." As a friend said today, "The Lord has big plans for that guy." Thank you Garrett for two great years and I look forward to many more!
Love you so much,
Your Granna
