First Visit to "High-Risk" OB

I had my first visit with the "high-risk" OB this week. Heath went with me and we were both pleased with the doctor. The nurse came in first to do an ultra-sound and check the length of the baby. Watching our little one on the screen was AWESOME!!! He/she was VERY active...in fact, the nurse had a rough time getting an accurate lenth due to all of the movement. At one point, he/she seemed to have the hiccups. The final length we got was 7.89 centimeters and the heart beat was at 153. YEAH!!

We have our next appointment with this doctor on Dec. 2nd. If our little one cooperates, we will hopefully leave knowing whether we are having a boy or a girl. The heartbeats that we have heard could indicate either a boy or girl and we have heard the picture looks like both a boy and a girl. We are just blessed to be having a baby, but are hoping that things work out and we can begin calling our "little one" by his/her name!

The biggest concern for my health and for the baby's is for me to keep my blood sugar under tight control. My A1C levels (3 month average) have been really good, but the daily ups and downs have been more dramatic than they wish to see. The doctor said that tighter control is going to help the baby develop more consistantly and in a healthier way.

Please keep us in your prayers as we care for my health and for the baby's. Such tight control is difficult and often interferes with daily life (especially being a teacher and in a classroom of 6-7 year olds!!). My class has done a great job coping with their teacher eatings snacks in the middle of class and taking moments to check blood sugars, so that has been a true blessing!!
