Surgery update

Well...they changed the surgery time again and began the surgery at 10:45. The goal was to numb Garrett from the waist down, which would allow him to stay on the canula and not have to be put back on the ventilator, but the doctor said that it only works about 50% of the time. When Garrett returned from surgery, we were SO EXCITED to know that the surgery went well and that he was able to stay on the canula. He had a moment during the surgery that they were very afraid and got very close to putting him on the vent, and then another scare in the nursery, but Garrett pulled himself together and began breathing again!!
We are not sure how long Garrett will have to stay in a nursery or if they will move him to the special care unit...so we will have to see! Our major goal right now is to recover from the surgery and begin to take his entire volume of food for every meal on his own!! We are hoping that the surgery will make him more comfortable as he feeds!
Thanks for all of the thoughts and prayers today...God is so good!!!

Dearest Carla & Heath,
You continue to be in my prayers & thoughts. I know you are rejoicing at every step forward and can hardly wait till Garrett is home with you. What praises we can sing to our Father as He has helped Garrett & you two through all this time since G's birth!!!
Love,
Toni
