WE ARE HOME!!!

We made it home! We stayed at a hotel down near the hospital. With the weather looks like it was going to be icy, we found out that there was a hotel on the top floor of the hospital. But with the weather getting bad, this hotel was full. So my mom called around and found out that a lot of the local hotels will give really good discounts if you have a child in the NICU. So we stayed at the Courtyard Marriot last night. When I say "we" I mean Carla and I plus Carla's mom and sister, Kristen. Kristen surprised us by showing back up on Tuesday night. She only has classes on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday. Well when the weather got bad she figured that classes would be canceled for Wednesday. So she is here for the rest of the week!! My mom has completely cleaned our house so it is spotless when we came home today! My dad addressed some "dad" things. We have been having problems with our heater keeping the house warm. So he met with service guy and we got a new thermostat. But this still didn't fix the problem. So a different service guy came and cleaned a sensor and addressed some issues. So as of now it is working properly!

So after checking out of the hotel at noon, we went to the hospital to check on "G-man"! This is Garrett's latest nickname. Aunt KK (Kristen) still calls him Gar-bear. But I'm liking "G-man." It is similar to his cousin Conner who we call Conner-man. Garrett was doing just fine. They say he is like his dad in that he likes to left alone while he is sleeping.

There is a minor hurdle that Garrett is trying to overcome. There is lots of medical terms to explain what is going on, but it is abbreviated as PDA. There is a blood vessel that bypasses his heart that is supposed to constrict during birth. But with being born early they said that sometimes the vessel doesn't constrict and dissolve. So they are addressing this by medication. So they started the medication this afternoon at 4:00pm. Then he will get another round of medicine at 4:00am and 4:00pm tomorrow. After taking this medicine he will undergo some close monitoring that the medicine doesn't adversely affect other blood vessels especially in his kidneys and lower intestine. So we are praying that the medicine will do its job with the vessel near his heart and not adversely affect his other vessels. We would ask each of you to pray the same.

So in the next few days the doctors will run some more exams on his heart area and will let us know what the results are from the medicine. They said that a second round of medicine is an options if the first doesn't work. The other option would be a surgery to put a clamp on this vessel. The neonatologist said that the surgery wouldn't be a major surgery, but any surgery for this little guy would be a challenge for him!

So we will continue to update you on how this goes.

Thank all of you for your prayers they are felt and appreciated.

We will try to upload more pictures and videos soon!!!
