Weekend Update!

My trip to Austin went well. My dad went with me on my trip to Austin. This allowed me to be able to sleep while dad drove. Dad and I got to eat at our favorite place, Pappadeaux. Crawfish is awesome! It was tough to be away and not get to see my G-man. But he was good while I was gone.

Carla continues to recover very well! She is getting around anywhere she wants to go. She is feeling very good too! We are encouraging her to drink lots of water and get rest. But I am not surprised, because she is a tough/strong woman. I am very proud of her!

So for an update on G-man! Last night when Carla and I went to visit Garrett the nurse pointed out that in his stomach area you could see a blue curved "line". The nurse said that to be on the safe side, they were going to do some x-rays to have a closer look. There was a little concern that this blueing of his stomach area could be a problem with his intestine. So they walked us through several scenarios that could happen if there was a problem with his intestine. The doctor said that the coloring could be an infection or a tear in the intestine. So we were a little concerned about that.

We also spoke with the doctor last night regarding the echo-cardiogram. The doctor said they had received the post-medication echo-cardiogram and it looked like the PDA vessel had constricted to a small to moderate size from a large size. The doctor said that when listening to Garrett's heart the doctor could no longer hear a murmur. As we were stepping out of the NICU the doctor caught us to tell us that the Cardiologist reviewed the echo-cardiogram and said that he believed the PDA vessel was closer to a moderate size than a small size. But the doctor said that the vessel had constricted enough that Garrett's heart and lung function was not affected by the PDA as much. So with the concern of the blueing of his stomach the doctor wanted to delay a second round of the medication.

This morning I slept in a bit. Then we got up and got ready to go visit our little man. When Carla and I arrived Garrett's coloring in his face was much better. They explained to us that Garrett required a blood transfusion. Once he got the transfusion his color came back and the blueing in his stomach area looked much better. The nurse today told us that after the blood transfusion the stomach area looked much better. Before we left the NICU the nurse told us that the doctor decided that everything looked fine with the stomach. So they will begin feeding Garrett at 6:00am tomorrow. Some more good news is that at 10:15am this morning they were able to take Garrett off his blood pressure meds. So throughout the day today when we would check in on G-man, he would be sleeping!! As they say sleeping is growing!

Aunt Melissa and Uncle Jack got to come visit Garrett this afternoon. As Jack said, "Garrett seems to have grown to him, but he isn't an expert or anything." They were excited to get to see him.

I've posted a new picture of Garrett opening his eyes to see his Mommy!

Great news guys! Hearing that the medicine did work some regarding his PDA valve is also great news. Once they start feeding him, if he is like any other little boy he'll eat more and more and really start to grow. Have a great day with Garrett.

Glad to hear his stomach issue is better. Also, that is good his PDA is closing. Tayden had to have surgery to close it. He now has a "cool" scar on his back to show for it. Anyway, happy first week birthday. Its good to celebrate those milestones.
