2 pounds and growing!!!

Garrett has made it to 2 lbs 1.2 oz!!! It just seems like a milestone to make it to 2 lbs. Granted, it is not much more, but it just seems so much bigger than 1 lb and odd amounts of ounces. Garrett is doing very well...he has come down quite a bit on the ventilator pressures (20 breaths per minute), is on 25-40% oxygen, and they have increased his feedings to 9ml every 3 hours.

His primary night nurse was able to give him a bath, which was very nice since he hadn't been bathed since Feb. 1st and his hair was beginning to be matted. The doctor also told us that because he was doing so well, it was time to give him a little challenge. If Garrett is still doing well when his doctor arrives in the morning, they are going to try taking him off the ventilator and put him on a c-pap. The doctor was not confident that Garrett would be successful this first time, but hated not to try since he is doing so well. If he struggles, they will put him back on the vent and try again in about a week.

Heath and I both know this will be a roller coaster ride...complete with its ups and downs. We appreciate all of the prayers during our "down-hill slide" and know that God will continue to be with our little guy! He has shown us His glory and we have heard that Garrett's life has touched many people in his 4 weeks of life. We continue to pray that Garrett grows and accepts the upcoming challenges with a power we know could only come from above.

I don't know you personally, but know Heath's mom from Travis Elem. I follow your story daily and walked in your shoes 5 years ago. It is amazing to watch God work and touch lives through your child. I am praying for your family and Garrett to have the strength for this trial in life that only God can give.

Hooray for 2 lbs! You're right... for some reason that seems so much more substantial than 1lb and something!
