Well...I posted this morning about the hurdles that we would be facing soon. Little did we know we would be facing all of them in one day! However, Garrett did GREAT!
Started out this morning with the doctor calling to tell me that they had put him on the conventional ventilator. They also started feeding him 2ml every 3 hours. I went to the hospital around 11 and when I got there, they were trying to put in the PICC line. They asked me to return in about an hour, so I met my parents at the elevator and we went to lunch. When we returned, we found out the Garrett's veins were not in the best shape, so the PICC line wouldn't work. They will be trying again in the morning. He received the last of his antibiotics and the doctor is pretty sure that Garrett is over this infection. His blood gases all came back good, so they lowered the vent and had him on about 23-28% oxygen. At 3 when his blood gas came back good...they decided to do the second spinal tap. In my eyes, he had already made it through a rather stressful day and I didn't want to over do it. However, it really wasn't my decision.
They finished the second spinal around 3:50, so my parents and I went to check on him. He was doing really well. To make sure everything was OK, they scheduled another blood gas at 4:30. We decided to go home and let Garrett rest so this blood gas would be good as well. Heath stopped by on his way home and things were still on the up and up! The blood gas was good, so they were able to turn down the vent a little bit again. Heath also got to change Garrett's diaper!!! Between the diapers we have been able to change...Heath got the first dirty one!! With all of the changes, we are very proud that Garrett is doing so well and are grateful for all of the prayers!

Bless his little heart (only in physical size--huge in every other way!). It does sound like a rough day. But thankful he cleared the hurdles of the day! He is so very precious. So very loved! love and prayers, aunt glenda
