Then last night we got a call around 9:00pm from Garrett's doctor at the NICU. The doctor said that Garrett was stable and doing well on his breathing. But he said that he hadn't peed all day long! This was concerning to the doctor! He said that he was concerned that the infection may have "insulted" his kidneys. The kidneys didn't seem to be working properly and he was retaining fluid and not peeing. The doctor said they would schedule an ultrasound for Wednesday morning to more thoroughly check out the kidneys. But that if Garrett's kidney did not begin to work properly again it could be bad because the fluid could cause problems with his heart, etc.
So as Carla and I got this news, we were both scared and concerned.....then the tornado sirens began to go off here in Allen! We had the news station on the TV and they advised to take shelter, so I got some blankets, the weather radio, sweatshirts, and a mattress and we sat in the center hall of the house. The storm passed quickly and God protected us from any severe weather. Honestly I don't know that it was a completely bad thing, because it got our minds off the news from the doctor for a little while.
So we went to bed and I prayed to our LORD that I knew he was in control and he could make Garrett's kidney function properly. So I went to sleep in constant prayer asking God to help Garrett and comfort Carla and I. When Carla got up to pump at 4 she called and talked to Amber, Garrett's nurse last night. Garrett had peed and appeared to be doing better.
I got an update from Carla this morning saying that the nurse said Garrett is still peeing this morning and they are slowly taking him off the dopamine drip (for fluids).
Then at lunch time I got another update from Carla saying that Garrett is having a better day today. He is going potty and his blood gas from this morning was good so they are working on lowering his ventilator rate. They said the doctor will update us on the kidney ultrasound later.
Our LORD is so faithful to answer our prayers. We appreciate all of you that are praying for us and thinking about us. It is definitely felt and we are grateful for each of you!

This is the poster that Amber (Garrett's primary night nurse) made him this week. It isn't the greatest quality picture, but you can get the idea. It has his weight (1lb 14.5oz)! Amber will be gone for the next week on vacation, so we will greatly miss her!
Here is a picture that I took awhile back and forgot to post. This is Garrett's area of the nursery. You can see the ventilator at the center of the picture and his bed is directly behind that.
Here is a picture of the G-man holding his Mommy's finger! He can feel the love that she has for him!

Here is the G-man holding Daddy's finger for the first time! This was one afternoon when Carla was pumping, so Dad got to talk to Garrett for 30 minutes of "guy time". We talked about his family and of course....cars!
Here is the little guy trying to suck his thumb the other day. It's hard to get the thumb in there with the ventilator and feeding tube, but he was trying!

Here are some pictures of Carla holding Garrett the other day
.
Here you can see how tiny he is compared to Carla's hand.

Heath, Carla and Garrett, We are thanking Father God this am for answered prayers for working kidneys! We pray for peace and strength for you Carla and Heath, wisdom for his doctors and nurses and continued improvement for Garrett. Please tell Garrett we love him and that so many are praying for him. Can't wait to see the post for 2lbs. You can do it Garrett!! Love to all, Diana L.
Heath and Carla,
We have been praying for ya'll since the moment we heard you were in the hospital. I know that ya'll are covered in prayer and God is watching over little Garrett. Take strength in the Lord and hold close to each other. The NICU can be a very stressful place as parents of a micropremie so I am praying that God will continue to sustain ya'll and give you peace knowing that he is in control. Thank you for the pictures of Garrett on your blog, he is a handsome peanut and makes me miss working there in the NICU.
