Not a whole lot of change...

Well, I have been up to the hospital each day and things seem to be pretty much the same. They make minor adjustments to his ventilator settings and in the amount of oxygen he receives, but no major changes. He is still fighting the infection and they have changed the type of antibiotics he is receiving because the new one treats staph aureus more aggressively. The past 3 blood cultures have come back negative, but they are watching him closely because his past couple of labs have not come back great.

On the positive side...he is still tolerating his feedings and is up to 4ml every 3 hours. The doctors have told me that keeping his nutrition coming is top priority! I've started reading books to Garrett and it is fun to watch him react to mine and Heath's voices. Plus, the nurses have started letting me help with some of the regular procedures (getting his temp, changing his diaper, etc.) and a couple of them have commented that he doesn't react as negatively when I touch him as when they touch him. That makes me happy!!!

There is nothing like a mommy's voice or touch. He knows you and you will be the one that can calm him the quickest....sorry Heath but that's just the way it is. Sounds like things are going great with his feedings and that is wonderful because he needs the food to grow and to be able to fight all the little NBICU issues he'll have along the way. Glad you are all doing well. Take care, Alexa

Of course he would react possitively to his mommy's touch. That is the way it works. I am so glad that you get to help with him. We will be praying for your little family daily. We love you.
