Garrett continues to be doing well. The doctors did another echo-cardiogram today and saw that the PDA is still not closed. They have decided to watch it for the next couple of days. If Garrett continues to do well with his breathing and they don't have to make major changes to the amount of oxygen he is receiving or the pressure of the ventilator...then they will leave it alone. If they see that it is hindering his breathing, then they will choose to do surgery. The surgery, again, is fairly routine, but still any surgery on someone his size has its risks. The nurse today said that they had lowered the amount of O2 and the pressure of the ventilator just a tiny bit and that he was handling it well. Hopefully these tiny adjustments will continue and Garrett will not require surgery!
When I arrived at the hospital today, his primary day nurse was about to do a blood gas. Whenever they open the top of his incubator...they try and take care of his needs all at the same time. So, she did the blood gas and then let me help! I got to wash his face, take his temperature, and change his diaper. I got a picture with my phone of me holding his hand as I took his temp, but my something weird happened and the picture wasn't saved. : ( Also...they began feeding him again. He gets 2ML every 3 hours.
We continue to pray that Garrett grows and that his daily development remains positive. We look forward to the day we can bring Garrett home, but daily praise God for the amazing progress that our little one makes every day!
